Scent Tunnel, Installation artwork in Autostadt, Wolfsburg, Germany
The Scent Tunnel consists of 2,160 potted plants arranged in three tubular sections that rotate at different speeds above a steel grating walkway.
Danish artist Olafur Eliasson created this botanical installation in 2000 as part of the Autostadt development, transforming industrial space into an art destination.
This installation connects visitors with seasonal changes through six plant varieties, including yellow wallflower, horned violet, heliotrope, lesser calamint, lavender, and sage.
The tunnel operates from April through September, allowing visitors to walk through the structure while experiencing natural fragrances from rotating plant arrangements.
Each of the three tubular sections moves at its own speed, creating an ever-changing pattern of 2,160 plants that stimulate both visual and olfactory senses.
