Phaeno Science Center, Science center in Wolfsburg, Germany.
Phaeno Science Center is a science center in Wolfsburg featuring angular concrete walls, extensive glass surfaces, and elevated sections supported by massive concrete columns. The building covers around 12,000 square meters and houses numerous exhibition areas designed for interactive learning and group activities.
The center was designed by renowned architect Zaha Hadid and opened in 2005 as a new type of experimental space for northern Germany. Its establishment marked a shift toward using bold architectural design and interactive spaces to teach science and engage the public.
The center features more than 300 hands-on stations where visitors conduct their own experiments and discover scientific principles through direct action. Walking through the displays, you notice the focus is on learning by doing rather than simply watching demonstrations.
The building is easy to reach and provides ample parking along with multiple dining options for breaks during your visit. The spacious layout and varied zones allow you to move at your own pace without feeling rushed.
Beneath the building lies an artificial landscape of valleys and hills that integrates with the experimental spaces above. This unconventional design links the building's outer form seamlessly with the learning areas inside.
