Fatih Moschee, Islamic mosque in Katernberg district, Essen, Germany.
The Fatih Mosque is an Islamic prayer house in the Katernberg district with a 30-meter minaret and a 15-meter dome. The prayer hall and gallery accommodate hundreds of worshippers, while additional rooms serve as a youth club, offices, and event space.
After an arson attack in 1995 on their previous prayer house, the Turkish community worked with the city to build a new one. The building was completed in 1997 and marked a fresh start for the community.
The interior displays mosaic tiles and Arabic inscriptions on the walls. Red floor tiles are arranged in patterns that resemble prayer rugs.
The location is easily accessible and offers spaces for various activities including youth programs and events. Visitors can explore the building during religious gatherings and community meetings.
The building won an award in 2000 in a Federal Social City Competition for its close cooperation between the mosque and neighbors. This recognition shows how the structure advanced integration in the city.
