Red dot design museum

The Red Dot Design Museum is a design museum housed inside a former industrial boiler building at the Zollverein Coal Mine Complex, containing over two thousand contemporary design objects. The collection spans a wide range of products, from furniture to industrial equipment, all displayed within this remarkable industrial structure.

The museum was founded in 1994 and moved into a former industrial building at Zollverein, which later received UNESCO World Heritage designation. This conversion of an industrial site into a cultural space is part of the larger restoration of the mining facility.

The museum displays design objects from around the world that have won recognition. Visitors see here how everyday products and equipment come to life through thoughtful design.

The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday and on public holidays, allowing visitors to walk through exhibitions at their own pace. You should plan enough time to explore the many displayed objects and the striking industrial architecture.
