St. Peter- und Paul-Kirche auf dem Frankenberge, Romanesque church in Goslar, Germany.
St. Peter and Paul Church is a three-nave Romanesque basilica with a western tower and a cruciform plan ending in semi-circular apses to the east. Its walls combine rubble and dressed stone, creating a substantial solid form typical of medieval church construction in this region.
Construction of the building began in the first half of the 12th century, replacing an earlier church on this site. The south entrance preserves ornamental stonework from the earlier structure, showing how medieval builders incorporated older materials into their new design.
The interior features Baroque furnishings created by local sculptors in the 17th century, reflecting how the church evolved to reflect religious tastes of that period.
The church is accessible from the outside and its location on Frankenberg offers views over the old town below. Inside access is available during services and posted visiting times, so checking ahead helps plan your visit.
The south portal entrance features a carved stone relief from 1200 depicting religious figures that was transferred from the earlier church building. This ornamental piece is often overlooked by visitors despite being one of the oldest surviving artworks on the site.
