Goethe-Nationalmuseum

The Goethe-Nationalmuseum is a literary museum in Weimar housed in the residence where the author himself lived. The exhibition contains an extensive collection of manuscripts, artworks, personal objects, and documents that cover different areas of his life and work.

The museum originated from a donation by Goethe's family after the famous writer ended his life in this house. The rooms were later opened to the public and still show how they were arranged during his time there.

The museum demonstrates how Goethe brought together his many interests under one roof, with writings, art collections, and scientific objects displayed side by side throughout the rooms.
