Green Gate, Potsdam

The Green Gate is the main entrance to Sanssouci Park and features iron bars decorated with gold leaf and intricate metalwork patterns throughout. The structure serves as a transition point to different park areas with its elaborate craftsmanship.

Ludwig Ferdinand Hesse designed and built this gate in 1854 as part of a larger development project that included the Church of Peace. Its construction marked a phase of park expansion under royal patronage.

The gate displays the initials of Frederick William IV within its ironwork design, showing the connection between Potsdam and Prussian royal power. Visitors can spot this personal mark of the monarch when looking closely at the metalwork.
