Kloster Mörmter, Franciscan monastery in Xanten, Germany
The Mörmter Monastery stands on a 19-acre land parcel, featuring traditional religious architecture with a dedicated area for prayer and contemplation.
Founded in 1921 by Franciscan monks from Dorsten, the monastery served as a military hospital during World War II, where 80 soldiers passed away.
The monastery maintains close ties with the local community through religious ceremonies, including baptisms, first communions, and marriage celebrations.
Since 2009, the Catholic community Fazenda da Esperança manages the monastery, continuing its tradition of religious service and community support.
The monastery provided shelter to Xanten citizens whose homes were destroyed during the wartime bombardments in the post-war period.
