The Kreislehrgarten is a teaching garden covering 3 hectares (7.4 acres) with different sections for fruit, vegetable, and herb cultivation. The grounds feature numerous paths that connect all areas, including a restored traditional farmhouse building.
This teaching garden began in 1914 as a district fruit and vegetable garden. It has evolved from its agricultural roots into a place where gardeners share knowledge about plants and growing techniques.
The garden is organized into different sections that demonstrate how to grow fruit, herbs, and vegetables, reflecting local gardening traditions. Visitors often see gardeners at work and can observe traditional cultivation methods that people in the region have used for generations.
The gardens are free to enter and open throughout the year, making them easy to visit at your own pace. Fruit sales take place from August through December on specific weekday afternoons, so plan your shopping accordingly.
The garden maintains more than 300 different fruit tree varieties, which is remarkable for a regional teaching project. This diversity makes it especially valuable for anyone wanting to learn about different apple, pear, cherry, and plum varieties.
