Kunst im Tunnel, Contemporary art museum in Carlstadt district, Düsseldorf, Germany.
Kunst im Tunnel is a contemporary art museum located beneath the Rhine Promenade in Düsseldorf. The underground gallery space uses 850 square meters within a functional tunnel and displays rotating exhibitions.
The museum was founded in 2007 as an extension of the nearby Kunsthalle Düsseldorf. It has since used an existing tunnel structure within the Rhine Promenade area as its exhibition space.
The space displays artworks that explore themes relevant to modern life through diverse artistic techniques. Visitors can engage with the works and form their own interpretations.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11:00 to 18:00. You can reach it by city train using lines U71, U72, or U73 at Graf-Adolf-Platz station near the entrance.
The space was built within an active transportation tunnel running under the city, using area that would normally carry car traffic. This creates an unusual situation where viewing art and urban function overlap in the same location.
