Staufner Haus, building in Steibis, Swabia, Germany
The Staufner Haus is a mountain hut on the north side of Hochgrat at about 1634 meters elevation. It provides space for around 60 people in dormitories and has 17 beds for overnight stays, offering hikers a place to rest and take in the surroundings.
The hut was founded in 1908 and is operated by the Oberstaufen-Lindenberg section of the German Alpine Club. It has remained an important rest stop for mountain hikers in this region since its establishment.
The Staufner Haus takes its name from the nearby Staufen and serves as a gathering point for hikers from across the region. Here mountain enthusiasts meet, share stories, and enjoy regional dishes in a setting that reflects the authentic mountain life of the Allgäu.
The hut is about 10 minutes on foot from the Hochgratbahn mountain railway station, making it a convenient stop for visitors. You will find simple overnight accommodations, warm meals, and clear trail markings that guide hikers of different ability levels.
The hut participates in the 'So schmecken die Berge' initiative, which serves simple meals made from regional ingredients. This approach connects the food traditions of alpine regions with the genuine experience of feeding hungry hikers.
