Laubachtal, Nature reserve in Mettmann, Germany.

Laubachtal is a protected area near Mettmann that encompasses a valley section with steep slopes where alders, willows, and poplars grow. The streambed and floor contain several small ponds and wetland areas that provide different habitats for plants and animals.

The area received its protected status in 1997 and has since been managed by the Düsseldorf district government. This formal designation marked the beginning of systematic preservation of this valuable valley landscape.

The area is shaped by traditional land management practices, such as horse grazing in meadows below Haus Laubach, which preserves the historical connection between agriculture and nature. This approach shows how people and the landscape have coexisted here for generations.

The area is accessible on foot and offers several small ponds and observation points throughout the valley. The ground can be muddy, especially in the lower sections, so sturdy footwear is recommended.

The area contains ancient pollarded willows with massive trunks that create specific microhabitats within the urban surroundings. These old trees stand out with their thick, gnarled stems and noticeably shape the character of the valley.
