WagnisART, Sustainable residential complex in Munich, Germany
WagnisART is a residential complex made up of five interconnected buildings with 138 apartments arranged around central cores. The buildings feature rooftop gardens and community facilities including music rooms, workshops, and saunas.
The project started in 2003 through an urban design competition and was built between 2012 and 2016 on former industrial land in Munich. It represented a transformation of this inner-city area into residential space.
Residents shape daily life here through their involvement in shared spaces and community activities. You notice this in how people naturally gather in communal areas and use the facilities together.
You can explore the shared facilities spread across different levels and rooftop areas. It helps to walk slowly through the complex to discover the bridges and pathways that connect the buildings.
The buildings are connected by elevated bridges on upper floors that form an integrated rooftop garden system. This arrangement lets residents move through much of the complex without using stairs.
