Löwen-Apotheke

The Löwen-Apotheke is a pharmacy located at Goetheplatz 1 in Weimar, occupying a building with distinctive lettering on its facade. A serpentinite lion statue measuring approximately 1.2 meters tall is the defining feature of its exterior and serves as the building's signature element.

The pharmacy was established in 1801 after Duke Carl August granted Carl August Tietzmann the privilege to open a second pharmacy in Weimar in 1799. This founding moment made it an important business in the city during the early 1800s.

The lion statue serves as a recognizable symbol for the location and draws attention from people passing through the square. Local artworks by Weimar sculptors have shaped the visual character of this building over time.
