The Skulpturenhalle features vertical wooden slats on concrete walls, creating an elongated structure with a convex shell-shaped roof overlooking surrounding fields.
The building was completed in 2016 after three and a half years of planning, with construction costs of 6.5 million euros funded through art sales.
The exhibition space presents rotating displays of contemporary sculptures, including works by Thomas Schütte, Mario Merz, and Bruce Nauman.
The facility contains an 800-square-meter basement storage area, a library, curatorial offices, and maintains regular exhibition schedules throughout the year.
The structure represents the largest realized architectural project based on Thomas Schütte's models, incorporating an elliptical floor plan with ceiling heights varying from 4.5 to 8 meters.
