Burg Erprath, Medieval castle in Weckhoven, Neuss, Germany

The castle remains consist of a four-meter-high motte with an 18-meter base diameter and a southern wall section measuring 4.8 meters in height.

Built in 1166, Burg Erprath changed ownership from the Erprath family to the Counts of Virneburg before being sold to Archbishop Friedrich III in 1405.

The residential tower incorporated Roman demolition materials, reflecting the regional practice of reusing ancient building elements in medieval construction projects.

Located at the meeting point of Gillbach and Erft rivers, the castle site stands 850 meters west of the Weckhoven Church of St. Paulus.

Archaeological investigations in 1984 revealed a wooden bridge and oak palisade between the main castle structure and its outer bailey.
