Kloster Holzheim, Benedictine monastery in Neuss, Germany
The Kloster Holzheim stands beside St. Martinus Church, constructed on the former estate of the Helpenstein noble family in Neuss-Holzheim district.
The monastery's documented history begins in 1432 with Mother Superior Dena Mengwaters leading three sisters and one lay sister in their religious duties.
The religious sisters maintained their connection to St. Martinus Church through a specially designed cloister grille that allowed them to participate in services.
The monastery served as a center for 26 conventual sisters by 1494, as recorded in official visitation protocols from religious authorities.
Following destruction in 1642 during the Thirty Years' War, the resident Augustinian nuns relocated to Marienberg Monastery, leaving their original location.
