Hammermühle, Gristmill in Biebrich, Germany
The Hammermühle is a mill in Biebrich, Wiesbaden, situated near the Salzbach river. The building was converted into residential apartments and continues to shape the character of this area today.
The mill was built in 1690 after an iron hammer facility was destroyed. It later became a center for grain processing under Bernhard May's management and has a long industrial history.
The mill served as a gathering place for artists and intellectuals during the 1800s, where musicians and thinkers would meet. These visits shaped the cultural life of the area at that time.
The building is now privately owned and houses apartments accessible via streets named 'An der Hammermühle' and 'Bernhard-May-Straße'. Visitors can walk through the area at any time and view the exterior of the complex.
This was the last mill in Salzbachtal and supplied bread to the Nassau garrison. Even King Leopold I of Belgium once visited the place.
