Pantanassa Monastery, Byzantine monastery in Mystras, Greece.
Located on a hillside, the monastery features stone-carved facades, ornate bell towers, and traditional corner domes integrated into the roofline structure.
John Frankopoulos, a chief minister of the Byzantine Despotate of Morea, established the monastery in 1428 as documented in inscriptions studied by abbot Fourmont.
The interior contains wall paintings by three metropolitan artists who combined Orthodox themes with innovative approaches to color, light, and spatial dimensions.
Nuns currently inhabit the monastery, maintaining daily religious activities while offering guided tours to visitors interested in Byzantine architecture and history.
The monastery stands as the only continuously inhabited religious structure within the archaeological site of Mystras since its foundation in the 15th century.
