Panteion University, university in Athens, Greece
Panteion University is a public institution in Athens focused on social and political sciences. The campus comprises multiple buildings from different periods, including a historic administration building, a modern seven-story structure housing classrooms and offices, plus additional specialized facilities and green spaces spread across the Kallithea neighborhood.
The institution was founded in 1930 and began classes that November, created by two founders who wanted to bring French models of political science to Greece. Over decades, it expanded its departments and became a center for social sciences, training many who later held positions in government and public institutions.
The university is named after its benefactor Alexander Panto and reflects a focus on social and political inquiry. Visitors can observe students gathered in discussion, participating in open debates about democracy, human rights, and social issues that shape daily campus life.
The campus is easily accessible by bus or metro and located in Kallithea near central Athens. Visitors will find the grounds relaxed and navigable, with students moving between buildings and spending breaks outdoors, making it straightforward to walk through and understand the layout.
The university extends across multiple locations throughout Athens, with the gymnasium housed in a renovated cinema building in Neos Kosmos near a metro station. The Media Lab and International Relations Institute occupy a traditional building in Plaka, giving the institution a scattered yet purposeful character across the city.
