The Church of Hagios Demetrios Loumbardiaris features a single-aisle basilica structure with ancient columns incorporated into its courtyard and altar design.
During the Ottoman period in 1658, lightning struck the ammunition storage near the church, preventing a planned bombardment and giving rise to its name Loumbardiaris.
The church contains frescoes dating from 1732 that were uncovered during renovations, representing traditional Greek Orthodox religious art and architectural elements.
The church maintains regular service hours from 8:00 AM to noon and 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with additional Sunday services throughout the year.
Ancient ruins and marble pieces were integrated into the church structure during the 1955 restoration, combining classical and religious architectural elements.
