Ilias Lalaounis Jewelry Museum, Jewelry museum at Makrigianni district, Athens, Greece
The museum displays over 4,000 pieces of jewelry and decorative objects in a modernist building from the 1930s at the base of the Acropolis.
The institution opened its doors in December 1994 after Ilias Lalaounis transformed his previous workshop space into an international center for jewelry studies.
The permanent exhibition features collections spanning from 1940 to 2002, drawing inspiration from prehistoric art, Ancient Greece, Byzantium, and global cultural elements.
The museum contains a research library with 5,000 volumes about jewelry and decorative arts, accessible to visitors through scheduled appointments.
Visitors can observe a resident goldsmith working with traditional techniques in an authentic workshop setting within the museum premises.
