Harmodius and Aristogeiton, Bronze sculpture group at Ancient Agora, Greece
The two figures stand 182 centimeters tall, depicting warriors Harmodius and Aristogeiton advancing forward with raised weapons.
In 477 BCE, sculptors Critius and Nesiotes created this bronze statue group to replace an earlier version stolen by Persian king Xerxes.
The sculpture represents the birth of Athenian democracy, showing two citizens who fought against tyranny in ancient Greece.
The original bronze monument stands at the entrance of Ancient Agora, while marble Roman copies exist in museums across Europe.
The warriors' poses influenced military monuments throughout history, making this the first political public memorial in European territory.
