Telloglion Foundation of Art, art Museum in Agiou Dimitriou , Thessaloniki
The Telloglion Foundation of Art is an art museum and foundation in Thessaloniki, Greece, housed in a modern building overlooking the Thermaic Gulf and Mount Olympus. The collection contains over 7000 works from the 19th and 20th centuries, including paintings, sculptures, prints, antiquities, ceramics, glass, and textiles by Greek and European artists.
The foundation was established in 1971 from a donation by Nestor Telloglou and his wife Aliki, who wanted to make their extensive art collection accessible to the public. The current building was completed after a design competition held in 1982 and was purpose-built as a museum.
The foundation was created by Aliki and Nestor Telloglou, whose names remain connected to their passion for art and commitment to serving the community. The place reflects their belief that art serves as a bridge to share culture and bring people together.
The museum is located next to the Aristotle University campus in a large green park area and is easily accessible on foot from the city center. The exhibition spaces are spread across three floors with climate control, and lighting and humidity management are designed to protect the artworks optimally.
The collection features rare works from the Eptanisian School, a group of artists from a specific Greek region, whose portraits and landscapes are especially valued. The foundation also houses specialized archives and libraries, including collections by Giorgos Mourelos and the Marinos Kalligas Library, which support research into Greek and European art history.
