Кориловос, Mountain and forest area in Drama region, Greece
Korilovos is a mountain and forest area in the Drama region at about 500 meters elevation, forming the southern end of Mount Falakro. Facilities include a paved road to the summit, sports facilities, an outdoor theater, and a cafe offering views of the city and surrounding plains.
The summit contains remains of a Byzantine church built around 1050 and dedicated to the Virgin Mary. In more recent times, a large memorial was installed in 1997 to commemorate victims of the occupation period.
The name comes from the Byzantine church Panagia Koriliotissa situated at the peak, which remains a focal point for local religious observation. Visitors experience this connection between the mountain's spiritual heritage and its modern recreational use.
The paved road to the summit is easy to drive with clear markings, making access straightforward. Parking is available and the site offers plenty of space to explore, though conditions vary with weather and time of day.
A large concrete cross standing about 12 meters tall is visible from Drama's center and dominates the view from below. Installed in 1997, it has become a recognizable landmark for the entire region.
