Palataki, Neoclassical mansion in Kalamaria, Greece
Palataki is a neoclassical mansion at Cape Karabournaki with two floors containing public reception rooms and private suites connected by marble corridors. The building sits on elevated grounds overlooking the city and surrounding waters.
The Government House was built between 1955 and 1960, initially serving as residence for the Minister of Northern Greece before transferring to the Greek Royal Family in 1963. Its official use for high-level visits continued for decades until operations ended in 2006.
The mansion served as a venue for high-level receptions and governmental functions that reflected its role in the city's official life. Its rooms were designed to impress visiting dignitaries and host important gatherings.
The grounds can be reached through nearby parks and wooded areas that offer walking paths with water views. Visitors should know the building itself is undergoing renovation and cannot be entered.
Prime Minister and later President Konstantinos Karamanlis made regular use of the residence during official trips to the region. His frequent stays marked it as an important setting in modern Greek political history.
