Mystraki, human settlement in Messenia, Greece
Mistraki is a small village in the Municipality of Pylos-Nestor in southwestern Greece. The settlement features traditional stone houses arranged along narrow lanes at an elevation of around 220 meters, with views of the Messenian Gulf to the west and olive groves dotting the surrounding landscape.
The village has origins stretching back many centuries, tied to the history of the Messenia region and the area around Koroni. In ancient times the region fell under the control of the city of Asini, which later became modern-day Koroni, and it served as a strategic point during the Byzantine period.
The best time to visit is spring or early autumn when the weather is mild and wildflowers bloom across the landscape. The village works well for walking at a leisurely pace along traditional stone lanes with views toward the surrounding hills and nearby coastline.
A historic well near the village shows examples of traditional craftsmanship from earlier eras and is protected as a cultural monument. Nearby stands a medieval monastery dedicated to the Presentation of Mary, with preserved frescoes depicting religious figures and sacred scenes.
