Lesbos Municipality, Administrative region in North Aegean, Greece
Lesbos Municipality is a former administrative region on the island of Lesbos in the North Aegean with its center in Mytilene. The territory includes eleven municipal units spread across coastal areas and inland regions.
The region underwent significant administrative reforms in 2010 when several former municipalities merged into a single entity. This reorganization fundamentally changed how the island was governed.
The region preserves many Bronze Age archaeological sites, particularly in Thermi and Antissa. These locations show how ancient people lived on the island.
The main city of Mytilene has an international airport and regular ferry connections to mainland Greece. The harbor serves as the main entry point to the island.
The area is home to Mount Lepethymnus with thermal springs in the western regions. These natural hot waters hint at geological forces that still shape the landscape.
