Rouffignac Cave, Prehistoric cave in Dordogne, France
The cave extends through eight kilometers of limestone galleries, featuring 260 engravings and drawings of prehistoric animals along its walls.
The site received its Monument Historique designation in 1957 and became part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Vézère Valley in 1979.
The cave contains 158 mammoth drawings, 28 bison representations, 15 horse figures, and 10 woolly rhinoceros depictions from the Middle Magdalenian period.
An electric train transports visitors two kilometers into the cave system, with tours lasting approximately one hour and adult admission costing 8.50 euros.
Research conducted in 2011 revealed that numerous finger marks throughout the cave were created by children as young as three years old.
