Côte d’Émeraude, Coastal area along English Channel in Brittany, France.

The Emerald Coast is a coastal strip in Brittany with rocky cliffs mixed with sandy beaches, featuring medieval harbor towns and fishing villages. The region includes walking paths that connect different parts of the shore and lead to viewpoints and coves.

This section of coast was named by a lawyer in 1890, inspired by the success of the French Riviera's marketing. The harbor towns grew during medieval times as trading centers and fortified positions against sea raids.

The small ports and fishing villages here show how people have lived off the sea for generations, with local boat traditions and seafood markets still active today. You can see fishermen preparing their nets and sailing routes that families have used for centuries.

A marked hiking trail runs along the coast connecting main towns and beaches with viewpoint stops. The best time to visit is at low tide, when you can see longer stretches of sand and walk to areas normally covered by water.

This area has some of Europe's strongest tidal swings, revealing vast stretches of sand at low tide. Local people have traditionally used the falling water to walk out and gather shellfish and fish by hand without a boat.
