Musée des Beaux-Arts Jules Chéret, Art museum in Nice, France
The Musée des Beaux-Arts Jules Chéret occupies a grand villa built in 1878 with neoclassical architecture. The building houses paintings and sculptures spanning from medieval times through the 20th century.
The villa was built in 1878 and later purchased by an American entomologist who hired architect Constantin Scala to transform it between 1883 and 1887. The renovation changed the building into an Italian Renaissance-inspired structure before it eventually became an art museum.
The museum displays works by French artists and shows how the local art scene evolved over the centuries. The exhibitions allow visitors to see how different artistic movements took root in the region.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday with varying hours depending on the season. Plan enough time to comfortably explore the collections and appreciate the building's architecture.
The original interior featured elaborate faux-marble decorations and mythological frescoes that are being restored today. These decorative elements reveal how wealthy 19th-century owners designed their homes.

Nice reveals much more than its beaches and the famous Promenade des Anglais. This collection invites you to discover the treasures that Niçois cherish daily: the Castle Hill Park overlooking ancient ruins, the Matisse and Marc Chagall museums housing exceptional collections, and the Cimiez Monastery surrounded by gardens. These sites narrate the story of a city shaped by diverse influences, from the Orthodox Saint Nicholas Cathedral to the alleys of the Old Town. From the flower market at Cours Saleya, where local accents can be heard, to Fort Mont Alban perched on the heights, each location offers a different experience of Nice. Some places, like the Louis Nucéra Library with its modern architecture, showcase the city's contemporary face. Others, more subtle, allow you to grasp the essence of a Mediterranean city where history and daily life blend effortlessly.
