Pic de la Grand Valloire, Mountain peak in the Dauphiné Alps, France
Pic de la Grand Valloire is a mountain summit in the Dauphiné Alps standing at 2676 meters above sea level. The slopes are covered with forests lower down and transition into open alpine meadows and rocky terrain higher up.
Early mountaineers opened routes through this peak in the 1800s, creating pathways that helped connect Alpine communities. Many of these original trails remain marked today.
Local mountain guides maintain traditional knowledge of the summit's climbing routes, passing down expertise through generations of Alpine communities.
The hike begins from the town of Allevard through the Bréda valley, with parking available near the Bruèche creek bridge. Marked trails are easy to follow, but hikers should be prepared for mountain weather changes and slippery ground at higher elevations.
The summit provides access to four mountain lakes scattered across the slopes, including Lac Blanc at 2124 meters and Lac Glacé at 2449 meters. These water bodies serve as helpful waypoints during the climb and offer quiet spots to rest.
