Rocher des Deux Soeur, Summit in Rochefort-Samson, France.
Rocher des Deux Soeur is a mountain peak in the Monts du Matin range reaching approximately 1,650 meters high. The summit offers open views across the surrounding landscape and attracts hikers year-round.
The name was given during World War II by members of a French youth organization stationed in the area. These young men named the peaks after their companions as a tribute during their time in the mountains.
The name comes from old Francoprovençal words meaning cliff, which transformed into the modern French term used today. This naming reflects the rocky nature of these peaks.
The hike begins most easily from the village of Rochefort-Samson at lower elevation. Trails are well marked and visitors should be prepared for changing weather conditions higher up.
The two peaks have local nicknames based on their shapes - one resembles a mummy and the other a reclining figure. Local people use these names to distinguish between them and navigate the mountain.
