Bec de la Scia, Mountain peak in Chartreuse massif, France
Bec de la Scia is a mountain peak in the Chartreuse massif that rises above the Perquelin valley with steep rocky slopes on multiple sides. The summit sits within the Chartreuse natural park and commands views across the surrounding terrain.
The mountain was developed during the 19th century by local foresters who created paths for timber harvesting in the region. These early routes form the foundation of today's hiking trails to the summit.
An orientation table installed at the summit helps hikers identify the main peaks of the Chartreuse massif and surrounding Alpine mountains.
The route from the Les Essarts hamlet follows a yellow-marked trail with strong elevation gain and includes a cable-assisted section. Wear sturdy footwear and prepare for changing mountain weather conditions.
From this central vantage point, three of the massif's most prominent summits can be seen at the same time: Grand Som, Chamechaude, and Dent de Crolles. This view helps visitors understand how the peaks relate to each other across the range.
