Église Saint-Amable de Pulvérières, Church in Pulvérières, France
The église Saint-Amable de Pulvérières is a church in the small village of Pulvérières, in the Auvergne region of France. It is a modest stone building with a small tower, a plain façade, and a simple interior centered on a small altar.
The parish was created at the request of local families and brought together from three neighboring parishes. Construction began around 1913, was interrupted by a fire in 1914, and the church was finally blessed in November 1915.
The church is dedicated to Saint Amabilis, a priest from the Auvergne who lived in the 5th century. His feast day on June 11 is marked in Pulvérières with prayers and a procession that brings the local community together.
The church sits in the center of Pulvérières and is easy to spot from the village road. Visiting outside of services or feast days allows more time to take in the interior at your own pace.
The saint to whom the church is dedicated is traditionally invoked for protection against fire and snakes. A local legend tells that his relics were once carried through a threatened village to stop a fire from spreading.
