Kolkheti National Park

Kolkheti National Park spreads along the Black Sea coast and encompasses wetlands, forests, and lagoons that provide habitats for migratory birds and rare animal species. The area is shaped by waterways, dense vegetation, and open shorelines that blend together.

The territory was once part of the ancient Kingdom of Colchis, which served as a center of ancient civilization. This historical past shaped the region and left connections to early Georgian culture.

The area has long been tied to Georgian folk traditions, and local communities still practice traditional fishing and agriculture as their ancestors did. Life here reflects a deep connection to the waters and forests.

Visitors can walk through the area on marked trails, with spring and autumn offering the best conditions for watching birds and wildlife. Bring binoculars and rain gear, as conditions can change in this wet landscape.

The area is a Ramsar wetland of international significance and is home to subtropical forests found nowhere else in this part of Europe. This rare ecosystem combination makes it a place few people know about outside scientific circles.
