Jvari Pass is a mountain pass in the southern Caucasus region at approximately 2,379 meters (7,805 feet) elevation and forms a key section of the Georgian Military Road. This road connects Gudauri with Stepantsminda while crossing through rugged, rocky mountain terrain.
The pass was part of ancient trade routes connecting the Caspian town of Astrakhan with Tbilisi before being developed into a military road in 1800. This transformation allowed better control and administration of the region by the Russian Empire.
