Agarani Fortress, Medieval fortress in Kojori, Georgia.

Agarani Fortress is a medieval stronghold in Kojori located on Azeuli Hill at approximately 1338 meters elevation. It features defensive walls and towers built using traditional Georgian masonry techniques.

King Bagrat IV captured the fortress from Emir Fadlon in the 1060s, marking a significant victory in medieval Georgian military campaigns. Later it became a royal residence used for recovery and governance.

The fortress reflects Georgian feudal architecture from the 11th century with walls and towers typical of that era. These structures allow visitors to understand how medieval builders thought about defense and settlement.

The fortress sits approximately 20 kilometers southwest of Tbilisi and is accessible by car along the road toward Kojori. The climb up the hill requires some fitness, but rewards you with views across the surrounding countryside.

The site hosted visits from high-ranking Georgian rulers who spent time there for administrative matters and personal rest. These stays show that the place was both strategically important and valued as a retreat.
