Truso Travertines Natural Monument, Natural monument in Kazbegi Municipality, Georgia.
Truso Travertines Natural Monument is a collection of white calcareous sinter deposits spread across a valley in Kazbegi Municipality. These formations result from mineral-rich spring water that gradually leaves behind layers of limestone, creating a distinctive pale landscape at high elevation.
The site received protected status from the Georgian government in 2012. This designation established conservation measures to safeguard the geological formations from damage or alteration.
The monument lies within the historical region of Dvaleti, near seasonal settlements and ancient structures including the ruins of ZakaGori Fortress.
The site is reached by a gravel road starting from Kobi village, located along the Georgian Military Highway to the north. Winter weather can make the route challenging, so proper preparation and suitable footwear are recommended for the visit.
The white limestone formations continue to grow as carbonate minerals constantly precipitate from the spring water. Visitors can witness this slow but continuous natural process that builds new layers atop the existing deposits.
