Agia Marina church, Orthodox church in Thisseio, Greece
The Agia Marina Church features a four-aisled basilica design with a dome, representing early twentieth-century religious architecture in central Athens.
The construction of this religious building began in 1924 on foundations laid in 1922, following architectural plans by Achilleas Georgiadis.
The interior displays frescoes from the 1930s painted by artists Graikos and Kandris, incorporating Art Nouveau elements into traditional Orthodox imagery.
Visitors can reach the church by taking the Green Line metro to Thissio station and walking six minutes through the neighborhood streets.
A small cave temple from the eleventh century dedicated to Saint Marina remains on the southeastern side of the main church building.
