Tholos of Athens, Circular temple in Ancient Agora of Athens, Greece
The Tholos features a circular design with six internal columns and a propylon entrance on the eastern side, representing Greek architectural precision.
Built around 470 BCE, this structure functioned as the headquarters for the fifty Prytaneis who managed daily operations of the Athenian council.
The building served as both an administrative center and dining hall where council members received meals funded by public resources.
Visitors can examine the foundation remains and structural elements of the Tholos while exploring the Ancient Agora archaeological site.
Seventeen council members slept inside the Tholos each night to maintain constant readiness for governmental emergencies.
