Pakasaivo

The Pakasaivo canyon lake extends for one kilometer, featuring steep cliff walls that rise 60 meters above the water surface in Western Lapland.

The lake formed during the last ice age when melting waters from retreating ice sheets carved through the bedrock, creating the current geological formation.

The Sámi people conducted religious ceremonies at Pakasaivo, particularly near the Kirkkopahta Seida rock, which remains an important cultural landmark.

A 200-meter trail leads to observation platforms at the lake shore, with facilities including a parking area, dry toilet, and campfire site.

The lake waters maintain permanent stratification, with the oxygen-free bottom layer preserving objects for hundreds of thousands of years.
