Lokrum Beaches

Lokrum Beaches form a series of swimming spots that ring the shoreline of a densely forested island near Dubrovnik. The water is clear and access points consist mainly of rock formations and traditional stone structures.

Benedictine monks established a monastery on the island during the 11th century, which later became an important center of learning. Over time, the island shifted from a purely religious site to a place where people come for relaxation and swimming.

The beaches serve as gathering spots where locals and visitors swim alongside each other in protected coves and rocky areas. The island maintains a relaxed character that feels less crowded than mainland beach options nearby.

A regular ferry connects Dubrovnik's harbor to the island throughout the day, with more frequent trips during summer months. It helps to arrive early to claim the best spots and enjoy the most hours of sunlight.

Within the island sits a saltwater lake known locally as the Dead Sea, offering a completely different swimming experience from the open coast. This lake's water remains calmer and more sheltered, providing a contrast to the surrounding sea.
