Gundulićs, Market square in Old Town, Croatia

Gundulićs is a market square in the Old Town where a statue of poet Ivan Gundulić rises at its center. Red and white umbrellas shade vendor stalls selling fresh produce, fish, and local goods to residents and travelers throughout the week.

After the devastating earthquake of 1667 destroyed much of the city, this area was rebuilt and eventually transformed into an open market square. The statue honoring the poet was added in 1893, commemorating an important figure in the city's literary past.

The statue of poet Ivan Gundulić stands as a reminder of the city's literary heritage, with bronze reliefs at its base depicting scenes from his epic work. Visitors passing through can observe these artworks and connect with stories that shaped Dubrovnik's identity.

The market operates on weekday mornings and Saturdays, making it easy to browse fresh goods and sample local products at your own pace. The space is level and walkable from every direction, connecting naturally to nearby streets and shops in the Old Town.

The Amerling fountain sits within the square, donated by a 19th-century benefactor whose name it carries. This water feature often goes unnoticed by visitors despite being a quiet resting spot amid the market bustle.
