Bükkszentkereszt, Mountain village in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, Hungary
Bükkszentkereszt is a mountain village in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County in northeastern Hungary. The settlement sits on forested slopes between 520 and 620 meters in elevation, with a Roman Catholic church built between 1800 and 1801 that still stands at the center of the community.
The settlement was established in 1755 when Slovak glass workers founded a community called Újhuta. Glass production, which had defined the place, ended in 1796 and left behind a legacy of craft tradition.
The settlement has developed its own identity shaped by its mountain location across generations. The connection to nature and traditional crafts continue to influence how residents relate to their surroundings.
The village is easy to explore on foot since key points are close together. Visitors should bring appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes depending on the season, as paths wind through forested terrain.
A museum documents the glass-making tradition that originated here and was maintained across generations. Handcrafted products from this period show the skills that once kept the community alive.
