Lake Velence, Natural lake in Fejér County, Hungary
Lake Velence is a natural lake in Fejér County, Hungary, that stretches across a wide area and reaches up to 10 kilometers in length. The water contains minerals like sodium and magnesium and is surrounded by sandy beaches, boat rentals, and several entry points for visitors.
The lake formed naturally and became a popular destination for recreation starting in the 20th century for people across the region. Today it ranks as the third largest natural water body in Hungary after Lake Balaton and Lake Fertő.
The settlements around the lake like Gárdony and Velence are living centers for water activities and relaxation. People here spend their free time swimming, boating, and gathering along the shore for leisure.
The shoreline has several entry points with sandy beaches where you can easily access the water. A cycling path circles the entire lake and gives you options to explore at your own pace.
One-third of the lake is covered with reed beds that provide a natural home for many bird species. This protected area, the Dinnyés Bird Reserve, draws observers who come to spot rare species in their habitat.
