Fegyver- és Gépgyár, company

The Fegyver- és Gépgyár in Budapest District IX is an industrial complex with mixed architectural styles, originally built for weapons production and later diversified into machinery and appliances. The site today contains renovated concrete monuments alongside older structures, housing small businesses and hosting various events.

The factory opened in 1891 and developed into a manufacturer of pistols, rifles, and machine guns, with peak infrastructure built around 1915 featuring large steel-concrete halls. After both world wars, production shifted to heating devices and gas appliances, and the facility was privatized and divided into smaller companies in the 1990s.

The factory once anchored a community with its own schools, sports facilities, and cultural centers that shaped workers' daily life. These social spaces reveal how deeply the plant was woven into the neighborhood's identity and the lives of those employed there.

The grounds are walkable with a mix of functioning businesses and historic structures, with some buildings open to access while others remain visible from outside only. Plan your visit based on which activities interest you, as opening hours vary for different venues and events.

A main draw is the Arsenal hall built in 1915, among the first large steel-concrete structures of its kind in Hungary, now hosting electronic music events and cultural gatherings. This industrial hall bridges technical history with contemporary cultural life, showing how factories find new purpose.
