Csillagvár, Medieval castle in Balatonszentgyörgy, Hungary.

Csillagvár is a star-shaped castle perched on a wooded hill near Lake Balaton with thick stone walls and a cross-shaped cellar system below. Inside, you will find museum exhibitions, an animal farm, and a restaurant serving traditional Hungarian dishes.

The castle was built in the 16th century as a defensive structure against Turkish invasions over several generations. In 1820, it was converted into a hunting lodge for the Festetics family.

The Hussar Museum section displays more than 150 figures dressed in traditional Hungarian military uniforms from various periods, each with period weapons and armor. Walking through this collection gives you a direct sense of how soldiers looked and equipped themselves across different eras.

The grounds are easy to reach and offer activities for all ages, from animal encounters to playgrounds for children. It works best to arrive in the morning so you have time to see everything without feeling rushed.

At the heart of the structure sits a medieval well that drops more than 30 meters below ground. Throughout the building, you will also see full-sized dioramas showing scenes of everyday life during different periods of habitation.
