Fenyőfői Ősfenyves Természetvédelmi Terület

Fenyőfői Ősfenyves Természetvédelmi Terület is a protected forest reserve featuring ancient pine woodlands growing on sandy soil within the Balaton Uplands National Park. The area extends across approximately 579 hectares and displays plant communities adapted to the distinctive soil conditions found here.

The pine forest originates from the last ice age and has persisted through thousands of years of environmental change. This longevity makes it an important witness to the natural forest history of the region.

Hungarian botanist Pál Kitaibel first documented this forest area, leading to scientific research that proved its natural origin against previous assumptions.

The reserve features marked hiking trails that remain accessible throughout the year. Parking facilities are located nearby and provide convenient access to the protected area.

The sandy soil creates conditions where only specific pine species thrive, while common trees like oaks and beeches cannot establish roots. This makes the forest composition botanically distinctive and worth studying.
