Diósgyőrtapolca Cave, Underground thermal cave system in Miskolc, Hungary
Diósgyőrtapolca Cave is an underground thermal bathing system in Miskolc with multiple interconnected swimming pools connected through natural tunnels carved into the rock. The chambers open naturally from the stone and fill with warm water flowing continuously from natural springs.
The cave was developed as a bathing site in the early 18th century when the first wooden structures were built near the entrance. Since then it has evolved into a recognized thermal bath and continues to serve this purpose today.
The cave bath has served as a gathering place for generations, drawing people who value the therapeutic effects of the warm waters. Visitors from across the region return regularly to swim in the underground pools and benefit from the natural heat.
The best time to visit is during colder months when the temperature contrast between outside and inside feels most pleasant. Access is through a main entrance from which the various bathing areas can be reached.
The ceiling area of the cave displays natural stone patterns that resemble stars and distinctly characterize the underground bath. This star-like feature is rare among European cave baths and contributes to the special feeling of the place.
